Congratulating the School winners of the University of Melbourne Excellence Awards
The University of Melbourne has a national and international reputation for excellence thanks to a community of highly committed staff.
Each year, the University celebrates the work of its staff through the University of Melbourne Excellence Awards, which recognise the outstanding achievements of academic and professional staff across the University. A ceremony to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of this year's winners was held in the Old Quad on 6 Dec 2023. We are delighted to congratulate the Melbourne School of Health Sciences recipients of the 2023 Excellence Awards.
The Award for Excellence in Place-based Initiatives was awarded to the Department of Physiotherapy’s First Nations, Health Promotion and Equity Teaching team for their Healthcare in Context Program (HCC). The team included Dr Rachel Toovey, Free Coulston, Ellie White, Jessica Lees and Professor Louisa Remedios. This award recognises outstanding initiatives in Melbourne, regional and remote areas that demonstrate collaboration with diverse partners and achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. The Award for Excellence in Graduate Research Supervision was awarded to Associate Professor Catherine Granger, who has demonstrated supervision practices that develop her graduate researchers’ skills both in research and more broadly to become well-rounded, independent, and successful in their chosen fields. The Norman Curry Award for Innovation and Excellence in Educational Programs was awarded to a multidisciplinary collaborative team spanning the departments of physiotherapy, nursing, social work and computing and information sciences (Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology). This team has led significant innovation that has shaped the delivery of teaching, motivating and inspiring students to learn through the Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy section of the Doctor of Physiotherapy Program. The team included Dr David Kelly (Physiotherapy), Dr Mark Merolli (Physiotherapy), Dr Jessica Stander (Physiotherapy), Chris Frith (Physiotherapy), Travis Haber (Physiotherapy), Dr Marilyn Webster (Physiotherapy), Kim Allison (Physiotherapy), Jessica Lees (Physiotherapy), Stephanie Hawkins (Physiotherapy), Bronwyn Tarrant (Nursing), Dr Nicole Hill (Social Work), Dr Antony Chacon (Engineering) and Dr Hasan Ferdous (Digital Health).
