Achievements in women's health physiotherapy research.
Over the past few months, the physiotherapy team has had several significant achievements in women’s health physiotherapy research.
Elise Fraser, Lecturer and Co-ordinator, presented at the Women’s, Men’s and Pelvic Health programs, Physiotherapy, as well as various other conferences.
27th Oct: PB Conference on Endometriosis, Brisbane - Invited lecture: Conservative treatments for Endometriosis-associated pain: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
20th Oct: AGES conference, Melbourne - Invited lecture: Supporting the perioperative person. Thinking beyond the pelvis.
5th Oct: Australian Physiotherapy Association Ignite, Brisbane - Podium presentation: Conservative treatments for Endometriosis-associated pain: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Further, Dr Udari Colombage, graduated from physiotherapy 10 August 2023, has recently enrolled in a PhD. Her achievements have been:
1 Nov: Clinical Oncology Society of Australia, Melbourne, 2 x poster presentations on: "Experiences of pelvic floor dysfunction and treatment in women with breast cancer." and "Feasibility of delivering pelvic floor muscle training to treat urinary incontinence in women with breast cancer: a telehealth study".
6 Oct: Australian Physiotherapy Association Ignite Conference, Brisbane, oral presentation on: "Experiences of pelvic floor dysfunction and treatment in women with breast cancer."
7 Oct: Australian Physiotherapy Association Ignite Conference, Brisbane, oral presentation on: "Feasibility of delivering pelvic floor muscle training to treat urinary incontinence in women with breast cancer: a telehealth study."
We would also like to congratulate Dr Robyn Brennen for passing her PhD examination on 12 September 2023:
1 Nov: Clinical Oncology Society of Australia, Melbourne: Poster presentations on: "The feasibility of telehealth-delivered pelvic floor muscle training for incontinence after gynaecological cancer surgery", "Prevalence and incidence of pelvic floor disorders before and after hysterectomy for gynaecological cancer", and "Associations between pelvic floor disorders, physical activity, and quality of life 3-months after hysterectomy for gynaecological cancer"
Oct: Continence Nurses Society of Australia / Australia and New Zealand Urological Nurses Society Meeting of the Waters, Melbourne: Invited presentation on "Birth trauma and postnatal pelvic pain"
5 Oct: Australian Physiotherapy Association Ignite Conference, Brisbane: " Pelvic floor symptoms, physical activity and health-related quality-of-life after hysterectomy for gynaecological cancer".

Additionally, PhD candidate Jodie Dakic had her thesis submitted on 1 Sep 2023:
12 Oct: Presented at Asics Sports Medicine Australia Conference, Twin Waters QLD: Paper on "Women's preferences for pelvic floor screening in sports: a mixed methods study integrating survey and interview data" and a symposium "Pelvic Health- The centre of performance- Pelvic health screening in female athletes."
Jodie won the Wendy Ey Best Paper in Women in Sport Prize at the conference.

Finally, A/Prof Helena Frawley, lead of women’s health physiotherapy research team, has been increasing engagement on pelvic health:
31 Oct: Invited lecture to Clinical Oncology Society Australia workshop, “Telehealth-delivered pelvic floor muscle training to treat incontinence in women following treatment for gynaecological cancer”
14 Oct: Invited lecture to Pelvic Pain Victoria seminar Geelong, “Conservative therapies for endometriosis- associated pain”.
