Welcome to Health Sciences!

The event is designed to strengthen the sense of community within the Melbourne School of Health Sciences, promote interprofessional collaboration, and provide opportunity to learn about and celebrate the diversity of the six disciplines. It serves as a relaxed social environment for staff and students to enjoy each other’s company and mark the start of the 2025 teaching year.

Around 500 Melbourne School of Health Sciences staff, students and graduate researchers, along with Faculty friends, attended the event and enjoyed music, activities, food and an appearance from Barry Bear. Following a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony, teams from Audiology, Speech Pathology, Physiotherapy, Nursing, Social Work and Optometry and Vision Sciences hosted fun, hands-on activities to showcase the MSHS disciplines.

The Social Work team focused on self-care, using sound bowls, resources and strategy discussion. Audiology promoted hearing protection and demonstrated a camera to look inside the ear. Speech Pathology featured a swallowing feedback test, a Taylor Swift singing activity, and a stuttering myth buster game. Nursing showcased vital sign testing and resuscitation. Physiotherapy had strength activities, such as testing grip strength and performing muscle palpations. Optometry and Vision Sciences demonstrated vision testing and held a fun eyeball and spoon race.

Interactive stalls featuring sustainable healthcare, placements, Melbourne Teaching Health Clinics, international student programs, Collaborative Practice Centre and IPEP-HSN were also on show.
