Physiotherapy students and staff support the Yoorrook Justice Commission Walk for Truth

On Wednesday 18th June 2025, Deputy Commissioner of the Yoorook Justice Commission and Kerrupmara Gunditjmara man, Travis Lovett, arrived at Parliament House, surrounded by 5000+ others, after starting walking on Sunday 25th of May, over 450km away on Gunditjmara Country at Portland, South-West Victoria.

Joined by Traditional custodians, supporters and community members along the way, this powerful journey brought everyone together to walk toward truth, celebrate the strength and resistance of Aboriginal people, and be proud to have the oldest living culture in the world in Victoria.

Final year physiotherapy students, Cheryl Chiang and Alison Chan, and physiotherapy staff, Dr Rachel Toovey and Dr Jessica Lees supported Deputy Commissioner Lovett and several other walkers at the Werribee stop on Sunday 15th June. Assessment and treatment including soft tissue massage and exercise programs as well advice for recovery were much appreciated by the walkers.

The Melbourne School of Health Sciences at the University of Melbourne is proud to have supported this important and powerful Yoorrook Juctice Commission event. As Victoria’s first formal truth-telling process, over the past four years Yoorrook has heard powerful truths from people right across the state, giving evidence on the impacts of colonisation, including systemic injustice, as well as the strength, resistance and achievements of First Peoples.'
