Advancing Neuro-Otology in Australia

The Neuro-Otology Society of Australia (NOTSA) recently held its 2025 meeting in Melbourne, bringing together professionals in the field of neuro-otology.

The conference, which took place from 10-12 October, included two days of presentations and discussions, followed by a training day focused on vestibular function and dysfunction.

The event covered a range of topics including bilateral vestibulopathy, central disorders, migraine, and otology, with Professor Raymond van de Berg from Maastricht University Medical Centre delivering a keynote address on vestibular implants.

Dr Donella Chisari made significant contributions to the conference, chairing Session 1: Clinical Tools and delivering an invited talk during the training day. Her expertise enhanced the event, providing attendees with valuable insights into paediatric vestibular assessment. In a complementary presentation, Dr Juan-Pablo Faundez-Astudillo shared his research on the effectiveness of vestibular rehabilitation in reducing risks of falls in older adults, further enriching the conference's comprehensive program.

The conference attracted a diverse audience of ENT surgeons, neurologists, physiotherapists, and audiologists, including teaching and clinical staff from the Melbourne Hearing Care Clinic who specialise in vestibular care. This mix of attendees facilitated knowledge exchange across various specialties within neuro-otology, potentially benefiting future research, teaching, and clinical practice in the field.
