New appointments in the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences

The Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences (DOVS) is excited to announce the appointment of three new members who will bring valuable expertise and contribute to the department's growing impact in eye care, research, and education.

Angela Hall has joined the department as the Clinical Optometrist for the Diabetes Eye Screening and Investigation Clinic (DESIC) Pilot Program. With a strong background in ocular disease management, public health, and research, Angela is dedicated to advancing eye care for individuals with diabetes. She is eager to contribute to innovative research and enhance student learning while helping to prevent diabetes-related vision loss.

Amanda Douglas has been appointed as a new Lecturer in DOVS. A clinical optometrist and vision science researcher, Amanda is passionate about teaching and has research interests in eye movements, attention, and colour vision. Her current work focuses on optimizing visual display symbology for pilots, combining her love for research with her dedication to education.

Katerina Kiburg, an epidemiologist with the University of Melbourne and the Australian College of Optometry, also joins the team. Katerina applies epidemiological and statistical methods to clinical trials and large datasets to better understand the associations between risk factors and eye health. Her current projects explore the provision of eye care to refugee and asylum seekers, and the use of the US National Health and Nutrition Survey to examine ocular outcomes.
