MDHS students IPEP HSN's Skills Expo
This year, the Interprofessional Education and Practice Health Students Network (IPEP HSN) joined hands with multiple health societies to ramp up their biannual Skills Expo.
On 11 April, over 100 students from MSHS and from the faculty for an opportunity to gain hands on experience across multiple health disciplines. The expo, organised by IPEP HSN leads Darshil Tadhani and Clara Luu, provided the chance for students to gain practical skills across various health fields, and an environment for interdisciplinary networking and teamwork. The different stations included:
- Audiology: how to do an otoscopy and display different types of hearing aids
- Dentistry: how to do perform periodontal assessment
- Medicine: how to suture (on bananas)
- Nursing: how to perform a subcutaneous injection
- Optometry: how to perform pupil assessments and display other diagnostic tools
- Physiotherapy: how to do taping
- Social Work: how to conduct multidimensional assessments
- Speech Pathology: how to conduct swallowing tests and examine the bulbar cranial nerve
With increasing focus on multidisciplinary healthcare in clinical practice, opportunities like this is increasingly importance for students in healthcare entry-to-practice courses to gain skills and encourage collaboration.
