Flora Hui at Science meets Parliament 2024

Dr Flora Hui was invited to the Australian Parliament House for the in-person 2024 Science Meets Parliament gathering (SMP2024) on 20 and 21 March.

Science Meets Parliament is a powerful opportunity for deep engagement between the Australian STEM sector and government, playing a crucial role in building relationships to bring science and technology expertise into policy making. The national gathering of STEM leaders includes expert-led professional development, a welcome reception, a Parliament forum, national gala dinner, a televised National Press Club address, and opportunities for delegates to meet with Parliamentarians.

Flora led the world’s first clinical trial of nicotinamide in glaucoma, and now leads the Australian trial in a global collaboration to determine if it should be incorporated into standard care. As an optometrist clinician-researcher, Flora dedicated to supporting STEM early career research and is a passionate science communicator. "After all," Flora said after the first day of the program, "research isn't complete until someone hears about it".
