Festival of Health Sciences 2025
This October, MSHS celebrated their second Festival of Health Sciences, which featured a month-long program of events and activities to learn, celebrate and connect with the School of Health Sciences community.
This year’s festival included 25 events for staff and students including tours of ‘The Art of Healing’ at the newly opened MDHS Medical History Museum and ‘65,000 Years: A Short History of Australian Art’ at the Potter Museum of Art.
Lunchtime fun craft workshops provided a fantastic opportunity to meet new people and learn a new craft skill. These workshops included creating Japanese moss balls (kokedama), learning to needle felt tiny houses, and making colourful clay magnets. One attendee shared it was “Great to be taken out of 'work mode' and do something completely different, with work colleagues. And get to keep my handiwork!”
The ‘coffee and tour’ series took staff and graduate researchers across MDHS for coffee before having a tour of some interesting University labs. Attendees experienced the TIGRR lab and heard about how they’re working to de-extinct Tasmanian Tigers, saw the cutting-edge CAREN (Computer-Assisted Rehabilitation Environment), explored the Digital Lab's next-level visualisation capabilities, and learned about AdaptLab's learning technology.
“Having access to areas in the University I wouldn’t know about through these activities has a positive impact on my work at the University”, an attendee mentioned. “It was a great way to meet new people from different sectors of the university and hear about the amazing labs and equipment. Such a great way to learn about what other people are working on, what their passions are, and see what incredible equipment is out there”.
The Festival provided a great engagement opportunity to meet or catch up with staff from across the School and learn something new!
