Department of Physiotherapy Research Success
The Department of Physiotherapy is very proud of its research staff who have celebrated several outstanding achievements, including awards and successful grant outcomes for a diverse range of projects.
Successful recent MRFF and NHMRC grant outcomes include:
- A Cardiovascular Health grant titled ‘Targeting muscle power generation: Is it the key to improving walking speed after stroke?’ led by Prof Gavin Williams with Physiotherapy Department investigators Prof Catherine Said, Dr Natalie Fini, and Dr Genevieve Tole.
- A Dementia, Ageing and Aged Care grant titled: 'KneeCare: An online self-directed weight loss and exercise program for older people with knee osteoarthritis and overweight or obesity’ led by Dr Belinda Lawford, with Physiotherapy Department investigators Prof Kim Bennell, Prof Rana Hinman, Dr Rachel Nelligan, and Assoc Prof Camille Short.
- A second Dementia, Ageing and Aged Care grant ‘Implementing ParkinsonNet to improve equitable access to high quality care for people with Parkinson's Disease in rural and remote Australia’ led by Prof Jennifer McGinley with Physiotherapy Department investigator Dr Marlena Klaic.
- An Early to Mid-Career Researchers Grant titled: "FASST-SCI: Facilitating Access to Sleep Apnoea Screening and Treatment in Spinal Cord Injury” led by Dr Marnie Graco with Physiotherapy Department investigator Dr Nicole Sheers.
Additionally, Assoc Prof Stephanie Filbay was awarded an NHMRC Emerging Leadership 2 Investigator grant, which was titled ‘Bridging the gap between evidence and practice to improve management of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries.’
Finally, a big congratulations to Professor Kim Bennell, who received an AM for significant service to medical research and education, particularly in the field of health and rehabilitation science. An outstanding achievement!
