Congratulating Prof Kim Bennell on receiving an Order of Australia
Congratulations to Prof Kim Bennell who has been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia. This title recognises Kim’s outstanding contributions to the physiotherapy profession.
As a research physiotherapist, Kim’s primary focus is on conservative non-drug management of musculoskeletal conditions, primarily osteoarthritis, with an emphasis on the role of physical activity and exercise in prevention and management. Kim leads a multidisciplinary team involving physiotherapy, podiatry, medicine, exercise science and psychology. Together, the team has conducted numerous clinical trials investigating the effectiveness of treatments including exercise, manual therapy, footwear, insoles, braces and telehealth.
Kim holds several positions including Melbourne Laureate Professor, Redmond Barry Distinguished Professor and Director of the Centre for Health, Exercise and Sports Medicine (CHESM) in the Department of Physiotherapy at the University of Melbourne, and NHMRC Investigator Fellow. Further, Kim is on several journal Editorial Boards including Osteoarthritis and Cartilage. She also has a significant record in successfully supervising and mentoring early-career researchers.
