Congratulating our new MDHS Dean's Fellowships in Learning and Teaching
Two MSHS staff members have been awarded the MDHS Dean's Fellowship in Learning and Teaching.

Associate Professor Karen Donald (Physiotherapy)
Social prescribing (SP) is increasingly being adopted by primary healthcare providers to connect patients with non-medical interventions that will increase health and wellbeing. Interventions may include exercise, music, art and outdoor activities. People with long term and often complex health needs and who are socially isolated will benefit most from SP. This Fellowship will support a visit to the Canadian Institute of Social Prescribing in Toronto and Bromley by Bow centre in London, both of which are recognized as leading centres of excellence and innovation in social prescription models of care. Karen will have an opportunity to discuss the barriers and facilitators to setting up SP models, see SP in action and meet participants. In collaboration with both centres, Karen will explore how health professional students could be utilised in delivering and/or evaluating SP programs run as a multidisciplinary student placement.
Associate Professor Kwang Cham (Optometry and Vision Sciences)
This Fellowship will support the development of Global Classrooms that will provide virtual international placement experiences for medical and health sciences students in an authentically diverse and culturally stimulating setting, focusing on global health practices and health systems. The Global Classrooms will use Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) pedagogy, embedding an environmentally conscious, equitable, and inclusive way to provide internationally focused experiences for students. This is an exciting new initiative that has strong support from the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Teaching & Learning) at Hong Kong University, Provost (Professor Jenny Dixon) at Universitas 21, and a Chancellery International University of Melbourne Global Classroom Seed Grant.
