Australian Pharmacy Council interprofessional colloquium
In May, a group from MSHS including Dr Deb Virtue (Physiotherapy), Ellie White (Physiotherapy), Sarah Large (Collaborative Practice Centre) and Dr Meg Keage (Speech Pathology / Collaborative Practice Clinical Projects lead for MSHS) (pictured), attended the Australian Pharmacy Council Interprofessional Colloquium in Brisbane.
The theme was Winhangarra (listen, hear, think) and centred on ways to amplify First Nations’ voices to transform health professional education and practice. Three panels of experts presented on driving transformative change, Indigenous leadership, and committing to a path forward via direct engagement with communities to build trust, connection and partnership.
The learnings from this colloquium will contribute to the further development of collaborative practice planning as we work towards embedding First Nations’ perspective and voice through our teaching, research and engagement. As a multi-disciplinary school shaping the experience of the health care workforce, MSHS has a particular responsibility to listen to, and work alongside, First Nations people in order to understand and act upon the health and related socio-political challenges facing their communities.
