Attendance at National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Eye Health Conference
From 22-24 May, Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences staff A/Prof Anthea Cochrane and Dr Jonathan Ng attended the 2024 National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Eye Health Conference (NATSIEHC24) in Nipaluna country (Hobart, Tasmania).
Sarah Large (Collaborative Practice Centre, The University of Melbourne) presented on the Faculty’s Ways of Knowing program and Shannon Peckham (University of Melbourne alumni) presented on her journey to become a board member of the Optometry Council of Australia and New Zealand (OCANZ).
Hosted by the First Nations Eye Health Alliance and supported by the Indigenous Eye Health Unit (IEHU) at The University of Melbourne, this year’s theme aimed to elevate and explore activities, projects, and initiatives led or guided by First Nations peoples and organisations to end avoidable vision loss and blindness.
It was great to participate and hear discussions on the success stories, as well as challenges from the sector across the country.
