Jane Miller’s ‘For Social Betterment’ Book Launch

The launch event for Dr Jane Miller AM's book, 'For Social Betterment: Social Work Education in Australia,' published by Monash University Publishing, took place on 19 March at the Woodward Conference Centre at the University of Melbourne.

This insightful book, inspired by Dr Miller's PhD thesis, offers a profound exploration of the history and significance of social work in Australia. Over 80 attendees, including alumni, colleagues, staff, and friends, gathered for a wonderful evening.

The event commenced with a 'meet the author' session led by Professor Louise Harms, Head of the Department of Social Work, University of Melbourne, allowing guests to delve into Dr Miller’s motivation behind the book and the importance of understanding Australia's social work history. Dr Miller's preceding ABC radio interview provides further context and insights into her research.

The book received its official launch from Cindy Smith, CEO of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), who eloquently underscored the significance of Dr Miller's contribution within the contemporary landscape of social work practice.
