Psychological Trauma Documentary for the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies

Bronwyn Tarrant and team showcased short films exploring psychological trauma at the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS) conference in Boston.

In conjunction with the International Society of Traumatic Stress Studies' (ISTSS) 40th anniversary, Bronwyn Tarrant and her team showcased four short films at the recent ISTSS conference in Boston this year. The films showed changing perspectives and understanding of psychological trauma over the last forty years of international study.

The short films are part of a major documentary project, exploring psychological trauma across the globe in the last half-century, led by Prof Harold Kudler from the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Sciences at Duke University, and Bronwyn Tarrant from the Department of Nursing at The University of Melbourne. This ground breaking oral history project combines digitally remastered, never-before-seen archival footage and contemporary perspectives in the theory and therapy of posttraumatic mental health.

ISTSS is an international interdisciplinary professional organization that promotes advancement and exchange of knowledge about traumatic stress. This knowledge includes: (i) Understanding the scope and consequences of traumatic exposure, (ii) Preventing traumatic events and ameliorating their consequences, and (iii) Advocating for the field of traumatic stress.
