When Jennifer Davidson started university, her current career field didn’t even exist. She now draws on her studies in arts, law and social work, researching integrated legal and social work practice, and teaching law and policy to social workers.

Miriam Suss OAM (BA 1972, GDip Social Studies 1972) was determined to become a social worker from the age of 16. With of over 30 years, experience as a social worker and community development professional Miriam is still giving to the community in her role as a Board Director.

In her role at Jesuit Social Services, Lucy Burnett (Master of Social Work 2016) works with the ReConnect Program, a program designed to support people with high rates of recidivism to reintegrate into the community after release from prison.

Reflections Project
In 2021 we celebrated 80 years of Social Work education at The University of Melbourne. As part of our celebrations the Department of Social Work and University of Melbourne Social Work Alumni Association (UMSWAA) commenced a collaborative oral history project. This project involves the collection stories, images and reports and publications of older alumni with established careers in social work.
THE HYSLOP MEDAL
In 2019, the Hyslop Medal was awarded to Professor Marie Connolly, who has an international reputation for her commitment to child and family welfare, evidenced in her practice, academic and policy contributions.
