It’s been a busy year for SWAGS!
This year, Professor Jane Maidment, from the Social Work Department at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, visited our Department in June and December, as part of an ongoing project to moderate all the subjects in our qualifying Master of Social Work (MSW) degree.
Dr. Jotheeswaran A. Thiyagarajan, an epidemiologist from the Department of Ageing and Life Course at the World Health Organization, visited the Department of Social Work for a week, sponsored by Professor Lynette Joubert with funding received from the School of Health Sciences Strategic International Research Fund.
We are delighted to announce the award of a PhD to Meghan O’Brien and a Master of Advanced Social Work to Kelly O’Mara.
We had 59 students graduating from our qualifying MSW this year, with many of these students attending the Graduation Ceremony that was held on 13 December.

Professor Cathy Humphreys and Ms Shawana Andrews gave a keynote paper at the East Gippsland Family Violence Forum, which was chaired by Aboriginal Elder, Daphne Yarram.
Professor Aron Shlonsky, Research Fellow, Dr. Arno Parolini, and database architect Colleen Jeffreys are working together with staff from the Centre for Evidence and Implementation (Singapore office) to evaluate the KidSTART programme of Singapore’s Early Childhood Development Agency.
