Australian GLP-1 Healthy Living Collaborative
AGILE
AGILE is a national multidisciplinary research collaborative bringing together researchers, consumers, clinicians and partner organisations to optimise health and wellbeing for people taking GLP-1 medications.
Why AGILE?
GLP-1 medications are rapidly transforming the management of obesity and related chronic conditions, but evidence on how best to optimise health and wellbeing alongside treatment remains limited. Key questions remain about how to support nutrition, physical activity, muscle and bone health, psychological wellbeing and long-term behaviour change.
AGILE aims to generate the research evidence needed to maximise the health and wellbeing benefits of GLP-1 medications, minimise potential harms and support equitable access to effective healthy living care for sustainable improvements in health and quality of life.
Led by the University of Melbourne, AGILE brings together complementary research and clinical experts, people with lived experience and partner organisations to accelerate research, inform clinical practice and shape future models of equitable, high-quality care in Australia and internationally.

Current projects
National GLP-1 Healthy Living Research Priority Setting Project
This project aims to identify and prioritise the most important research questions to improve health and wellbeing for Australians taking GLP-1 medications. Bringing together people with lived experience, researchers, clinicians and partner organisations, the project will establish a shared national research agenda to guide future research to ensure that people using GLP-1 therapies receive evidence-based support to optimise their health, function and wellbeing.
Adults’ experiences and preferences for healthy living support for users of GLP-1 medications for weight management: A qualitative study
This study will use semi-structured interviews to explore individual’s experiences and perspectives regarding healthy living support while using GLP-1 medications for weight management. Findings from this study will inform the development of appropriate models of care to optimise outcomes for people using GLP-1 medications for weight management.
National consumer survey
This project will involve an online survey of adults in Australia who are currently using or have recently used GLP-1 based medications to understand their experiences, in particular, whether they receive the support for physical activity, exercise, healthy eating, and nutrition that is recommended as part of comprehensive treatment and whether that support meets their perceived needs.
