Dr Thomas Rollinson awarded PhD

BEST congratulates Dr Thomas Rollinson (BPhysio, PhD Melb, CAHPU) on completing his PhD at the University of Melbourne.

Dr Rollinson’s thesis, ‘Towards Precision-Guided Early Rehabilitation to Improve Physical Recovery from Critical Illness’, was supervised by Professor David Berlowitz (BEST research group), Professor Sue Berney, and Dr Sophie Zaloumis.

Dr Rollinson's research investigated strategies to enable precision-guided early rehabilitation in intensive care, examining physical activity, muscle size, and a novel biomarker as potential predictors of recovery. The biomarker demonstrated the greatest potential to guide rehabilitation interventions and improve physical recovery following critical illness.

Dr Thomas Rollinson is a Senior Intensive Care Unit Physiotherapist and Physiotherapy Research Lead who is currently acting as the Manager of Physiotherapy at Austin Health. He is an Honorary Clinical Senior Fellow in the Departments of Physiotherapy and Critical Care at the University of Melbourne and an Associate at the Institute for Breathing and Sleep. In addition, Dr Rollinson has contributed as a site investigator to several of the largest international randomised controlled trials evaluating early rehabilitation in intensive care.
