BEST PhD students take on the Three Minute Thesis Competition

Congratulations to two of BEST’s PhD students, Nicola Burgess and Talia Clohessy, for their outstanding efforts in the highly competitive Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition in the Melbourne School of Health Sciences round.

The 3MT competition challenges PhD candidates to explain their research to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes. Representing the Department of Physiotherapy, Nicola and Talia reached the Melbourne School of Health Science round.

  • ‘Just Right: Personalising Prehabilitation for Joint Replacement'  (Nicola Burgess)
  • 'Breathing New Life into Spinal Cord Injury Recovery’ (Talia Clohessy)

Nicola was awarded the People’s Choice Award and placed third in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences final. She will now represent the faculty in the university-wide final on 7 September.

Nicola and Talia commenced their PhD's in 2023 as part of the Melbourne Academic Centre for Health cohort.
