As the inaugural recipient of this award, the funds will be used to develop a new clinical test for the early detection of diabetes. This work involves the imaging of flicker-induced dilation of small vessels in the retina using optical coherence tomography angiography. This is correlated against spatial retinal function which is assayed using the new multifocal ERG system at the University of Melbourne Eyecare Clinic. A separate suite of auditory testing is being developed at the University of Melbourne Audiology and Speech pathology clinic.
