FACTORS is research project that is exploring the variation in rates of Community Treatment Orders’(CTO's) across several Australian states and territories.  We now form data gathered by health departments that there is great variation in the application of CTOs.  Variation in use across services and across states.  Other factors such as how you identify (First Nations, LGBTQI or having a disability) or the legislation that governs compulsory treatment can also impact on the likelihood of a person being on a CTO.  FACTORS aims to understand these variations, with the hope that in understanding them we can start to reduce the use of CTO’s.

Headed by Prof Lisa Brophy and Ass Prof Chris Maylea from La Trobe University and funded by an ARC discovery Grant, FACTORS is a collaboration of researchers from eight universities and coming from different disciplines.  Vrinda Edan, Senior Consumer Academic and PhD Candidate's role in FACTORS is leading the lived experience work within the project, such as providing consumer perspective advice to a PhD student, organising and supporting the lived experience expert panel and working with a Consumer Research Assistant to undertake tasks during the project.
