Leah McKenner
Consumer Advisor
Facing change
Leah has a lived experience of emotional distress, suicidality and trauma. She has used mental health services for much of her life, and experienced firsthand the many limitations to healing within the current mental health system.
Prompted by her own lived experience, and a desire to support others, Leah started her career as a peer support worker in early 2017. She has since gained interest and expertise in consumer workforce development, training, consumer perspective supervision and co-production.
Leah currently holds the role of Consumer Advisor at North Western Mental Health. In addition to being the discipline lead for a large consumer workforce, she is deeply invested in seeing co-production understood and embedded to create the conditions necessary for consumers to be embraced as leaders in mental health reform.
