HEARnet Clinical Studies Network

Through its highly-skilled clinical studies team of ENT surgeons, audiologists, and clinical trials specialists, HEARnet conducts a range of industry-sponsored studies to develop new technology, speech processing, and rehabilitation tools and procedures

HEARnet Clinical Studies Network is a key element of the Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology’s industry-engaged research program. A legacy of the highly successful HEARing Cooperative Research Centre which operated from 2007 to 2019, HEARnet provides GCP (Good Clinical Practice)-accredited contract research organisation capabilities and capacity for clinical studies in the field of cochlear implantation and hearing impairment.

Through its highly-skilled clinical studies team of ENT surgeons, audiologists, and clinical trials specialists, HEARnet conducts a range of industry-sponsored studies to develop new technology, speech processing, and rehabilitation tools and procedures. Examples of recent studies include clinical trial of a new design of implantable bone anchored hearing aid and a large-scale assessment of outcomes with different designs of cochlear implant electrode arrays.

HEARnet currently partners with cochlear implant clinics in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane to ensure both small and large-scale studies can be adequately resourced with subject numbers. Outcomes of our industry-sponsored research have led to improved patient benefit for adults and children using cochlear implants, as well as helping to support Australian’s world-leading company Cochlear Ltd as well as other hearing technology companies and service organisation.
