Showcasing innovation and impact across MSHS
We held our inaugural Melbourne School of Health Sciences (MSHS) PitchFest event on 24 October, at which 22 Graduate Research and Early Career Academic participants from the MSHS Science Media Communications program delivered a 1-minute presentation on their research followed by 2 minutes of question time with journalist, Emily Rice.
This event was the culmination of a year-long communications training program which provided opportunities for participants to develop skills in crafting their message for various audiences, pitching to media, podcasting, social media, infographics and more.
The Pitchfest was judged by MSHS Head of School, Prof Bruce Thompson, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences (MDHS) Deputy Dean, Prof Michael McGuckin, and MDHS Director of Program Delivery and Industry Engagement and Principal Investigator with the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences and the Centre for Eye Research Australia, A/Prof Lauren Ayton.

- Third place – Hannah Sharma (Department of Physiotherapy)
- Media Star winner (selected by Emily Rice) – Amanda Kwong (Department of Physiotherapy)
Congratulations to Ching Yi, Lucy, Hannah and Amanda! And congratulations to all participants on the completion of the program and delivering outstanding pitches at the event. The event also featured the screening of the MSHS Impact on Show video competition finalists and winner announcement. The Impact on Show competition was open to staff and Graduate Researchers across MSHS, to showcase their innovation and impact in a 1-minute video. MSHS Head of School, Prof Bruce Thompson selected the winners from the shortlist of impressive videos.

- Runner up - Clinical practice guidelines in paramedicine (Nursing)
- Runner up - Genetic Eye-Spy (Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences)
