Producing and Promoting Gender Equity in Health Care
The Department of Nursing and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre hosted this year's first public nursing seminar on 5 March 2024.
Guest speaker Professor John Oliffe from the University of British Columbia discussed connections between, and challenges, for the social determinants of health and the sustainability of gender equity interventions. Showcasing visual methods, he used case study examples that included the use of digital story telling in endometriosis and photovoice for mobilising peer support in men’s suicide prevention.
About the Speaker
Professor John Oliffe is a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair at the School of Nursing at the University of British Columbia, and a professor at the Department of Nursing, University of Melbourne. As the founder and lead investigator of UBC's Men's Health Research Program, his qualitative work focuses on the influence of gendered health behaviours and illness management, and its impact on partners, families and overall life quality. He has expertise in wide-ranging qualitative methods, and the findings drawn from his research offer guidance to clinicians and researchers, and have been transitioned to inform evaluated tailored interventions.
