On Country for Health Immersion
As part of their extend modules, six Doctor of Physiotherapy students spent a week on Yorta Yorta Country (in and around Shepparton, Moama, Barmah, and the surrounding areas) alongside Doctor of Medicine students.
They were joined by Physiotherapy staff, the Wurru Wurru Health Unit and Yorta Yorta man, Uncle Corey Walker, for an immersive experience that included hands-on cultural activities, visits to local Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs), and learning about the significance of Country and its connection to health. Tutorials held around the fire provided further insight and opportunities for self-reflection. The week was made particularly impactful by the many Elders who generously shared their experiences and knowledge, making it a transformative experience for all involved.
