MSHS Presents: Learning Together In Disability

On Wednesday 7 December, the inaugural MSHS Presents webinar, "Learning Together in Disability: Sharing Knowledge through Partnerships", was held in celebration of International Day of People with Disability.

An engaged audience of people with lived experience of disability, health researchers, clinicians and industry partners joined us for a lively discussion on working together to foster partnerships, improve practice and advocate for change.

Thanks to our speakers Matt Warren, Chief Experience Officer at Yooralla, Sevastine Katsakis, Consumer Coordinator, CP-Achieve and Healthy Trajectories Hub at the Murdoch Children's Research Institute and MDHS' Professor Alicia Spittle and our MSHS Disability and Inclusion Research Hub Champions, Dr Lyndal Hickey, and Dr Rachel Toovey enough for a passionate and lively event which set the tone for things to come.

It was clear from all of our speakers that people with lived experience of disability need to influence the disability and inclusion research agenda. We need to work better to form partnerships between people with lived experience of disability, interdisciplinary researchers and practitioners, cross-sector communities and policy makers to drive innovative health sciences research. We need to address barriers to consumer involvement in research such as communication challenges. And crucially, we need to engage the community at every opportunity to continue this conversation.
