Extending the DoN community to ANMTCN

The Department of Nursing is now a proud supporter of the Australasian Nursing and Midwifery Clinical Trials Network

Recently, members of the The Department of Nursing at the University of Melbourne have joined the Australasian Nursing and Midwifery Clinical Trials Network (ANMCTN). The Department is a proud supporter of ANMCTN, which was established in 2020 as a reaction to the COVID pandemic to bring researchers across Australasia together to enhance research impact. Nursing and midwifery led research is currently underrepresented, underfunded and yet urgently needs to prepare for the future in delivering scientifically proven, cost-effective and high-quality care. Providing the platforms to accelerate growth in nurse and midwife led trials and building collaboration amongst researchers presents the opportunity to share resources, training and support.

Professor Marie Gerdtz, Professor Denise Harrison and Dr. Suzanne Kapp attended the network’s summit in Adelaide in early November, a roundup of the outcomes of this event was featured in the MJA: Harnessing the nursing and midwifery workforce to boost Australia’s clinical research impact. Through critical collaborations like this, nurses and midwives can better provide health security and resilience to our communities.
