Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences recognised as the latest Center for Evidence-Based Vision Care
The Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences at the University of Melbourne is proud to have been recognised as a Cochrane Eyes and Vision (CEV) Centre for Evidence-Based Vision Care for sustained excellence in publishing Cochrane systematic reviews.
CEV Centers for Evidence-based Vision Care demonstrate their commitment to evidence-based medicine and are a model for clinical sites worldwide. Our Department is now the 9th such centre worldwide, the first in the Southern Hemisphere, and the 3rd optometry school globally to be recognised.
The School of Health Sciences and the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences would like to recognise and congratulate A/Prof Laura Downie, who has been working towards this vision since 2015.
Since 2017, our Department has published 4 Cochrane systematic review protocols, with a further 1 currently under review, and 3 full systematic reviews, with a further 1 in progress.
A number of department staff co-authored these reviews including A/Prof Peter Keller, A/Prof Larry Abel and Dr Kwang Cham, as well as 7 of our Doctor of Optometry and PhD students, and several international collaborators.
We are proud of this achievement, and the recognition it brings to our Department as a leader in evidence-based eye care.
