APA Breakfast keynote invited speaker

Professor Linda Denehy was the keynote invited speaker at the recent Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) Breakfast and presented on “Cancer: Is Exercise Medicine”.

This is an annual event that is attended by Physiotherapists and their invited key stakeholders in the community (general practitioners and specialists).  This year there were nearly 300 guests at Caulfield racecourse. The presentation summarised a growing body of evidence to suggest that people with cancer benefit from a multidisciplinary approach to their recovery. This includes education, exercise and diet before, during and/or after treatment. While much of this evidence is aimed at improving functional and quality of life outcomes there is also emerging research exploring the effects of exercise on tumour growth and cancer recurrence. Linda explored these important outcomes using examples from several different common cancer tumour streams. A panel discussion followed the presentation.
