Eye examinations are available to the general public as well as the University community. Consultations are conducted by final year students fully supervised by experienced practising optometrists who are staff of the University of Melbourne. No charge is made for examinations conducted at the clinic and Medicare benefits are not utilised. Patients will therefore have access to their full Medicare entitlements to optometry services on their return to your care.
The clinic welcomes referrals for contact lens, low vision and occupational eye care as well as general optometric examination. Supervising optometrists hold therapeutic endorsements and as part of the therapeutic teaching program for current undergraduate students the clinic is able to prescribe medications available to therapeutically endorsed optometrists.
The Clinic offers a range of diagnostic equipment not accessible in mainstream optometry practice.
How to Refer
A formal referral is not required by your patients to attend the clinic as a Medicare item number 10905 or any other MBS item will not be billed. However we welcome referral notes to facilitate the feedback of information to you and to help us with any relevant information you may have.
