The University of Melbourne Social Work Alumni Association (UMSWAA) is pleased to host the upcoming Professional Development Breakfast entitled Youth Justice: Restorative Justice.

Professor Gale Burford, Distinguished Visiting Scholar of Restorative Justice, Vermont Law School and Julie Edwards, Cheif Executive Officer, Jesuit Social Services, will share their extensive practice, policy, and research knowledge about what we know about youth offending and how restorative justice can be applied in practice.

OUR SPEAKERS

PROFESSOR GALE BURFOD - is retired from full time employment with the University of Vermont where he was Professor of Social Work and Director of Child Welfare Partnership Training Program between University of Vermont and State of Vermont Department for Children and Families. Professor Burford has experience in USA, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and United Kingdom.He has continued involvement in local, state, national and international research and evaluation activities in child & family practices and restorative justice.

JULIE EDWARDS - joined Jesuit Social Services in 2001. She was the Program Director prior to her appointment as CEO in June 2004. Julie has over 35 years experience engaging with marginalised people and families experiencing breakdown and trauma. She is a social worker, family therapist and a grief and loss counsellor. Julie has a Masters in Social Work and is currently completing her doctorate in this discipline.
