Message from the Head

Welcome to our second newsletter for 2016. We have moved to a new e-format which we hope you will find easy to read and informative. This newsletter is one of our strategies to keep our alumni and friends informed of the activities of the department. We hope you find it relevant. Any feedback on format or content is gratefully received, as is any feedback on any of the work of the department.

This edition highlights some of the research activity of our postgraduate students, who have showcased their research to the world via presentations at major international conferences and publications in leading international journals.

Our current research higher degree cohort is approximately 25 students, enrolled in either the Master of Philosophy and PhD programs. We also have several students enrolled in the Master of Science (Vision Science) program, and 8 honours level research students. These students contribute significantly to the advancement of the discipline, to the future teaching, research and leadership needs of optometry, and are essential to a vibrant university department. They also make stellar contributions to our teaching program, and the social fabric of the department. They come to us from a diversity of backgrounds: recent optometry graduates; not so recent optometry graduates looking for new challenge and career development; international optometry graduates; and graduates from other degrees with majors of relevance to vision science (for example: engineering, neuroscience, psychology). We are very proud of their achievements and hope you will be also.
