Seeing Beyond 2026 Launches with “An Eye on Colour!”

On 23 March 2026, we saw the world in full colour as the first lecture in the 2026 Seeing Beyond series, An Eye on Colour!, brought together leading researchers, clinicians, and members of the community for an inspiring evening of discovery and discussion.

Held on World Optometry Day 2026, the event celebrated this year’s global theme, “A Shared Vision: Collaboration in Global Eye Care,” highlighting the importance of research, education, and collaboration in advancing eye health outcomes for all.

The evening featured three outstanding speakers who explored the fascinating science and clinical importance of colour vision from different perspectives.

Exploring the Science of Colour Vision

Dr Amanda Douglass - Lecturer in the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences opened the evening with a captivating plenary lecture on the latest developments in colour vision research. Her presentation provided valuable insights into emerging discoveries and the future directions of colour vision science.

Dr John Parkes, an occupational and environmental physician, then presented on the importance of paediatric colour vision testing, outlining practical approaches to diagnosis and grading in children and highlighting the role early testing can play in supporting learning and development.

The final presentation featured a research spotlight from PhD candidate Dr Jingjing Lin, who discussed her novel exploration of colour vision in people living with neurodegenerative disease and the emerging applications of colour vision testing in this area.
