On Friday, 28 February, our Department had the pleasure of welcoming a new cohort of Doctor of Optometry (OD) students at the highly anticipated Welcome to Health Sciences event, hosted by the Melbourne School of Health Sciences.
The day commenced with an engaging orientation session in the morning, during which faculty members warmly greeted our students. The session featured insightful sharings from both teaching staff and senior students, equipping our first-year Doctor of Optometry with valuable tips to help them navigate their academic journey and begin considering their future career pathways in optometry.

The excitement continued into the afternoon with the Festival of Health Sciences, an immersive event that provided students with opportunities to connect, explore various aspects of the field, and foster relationships within the School of Health Sciences community.

A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated student volunteers, University of Melbourne Optometry Student Society (UMOSS), and student representatives from ODSC who generously shared their experiences and best study tips with our first-year students. Their experiences will undoubtedly inspire our new cohort as they embark on this exciting journey.

As we move forward, we are filled with anticipation for the remarkable achievements our students will accomplish in the coming years. Stay tuned for updates on their progress and the positive impact they will undoubtedly have on the field of optometry!
