The Centre for Health, Exercise & Sports Medicine in the Department of Physiotherapy was awarded a VicHealth Award 2016 in the 'Research to Action' category for their IMPACT Project.

""

The award was accepted on behalf of the team by Prof Kim Bennell and Prof Rana Hinman.

This project evaluated the effectiveness and acceptability of using the internet to deliver specialist exercise and education treatments for adults with knee osteoarthritis across Australia. The project assessed a 3-month combined internet delivered treatment of physiotherapist-prescribed home exercise using Skype, and an interactive automated pain coping skills training program in people with knee osteoarthritis. Results revealed substantial clinical benefits including improved knee pain and physical function, as well as high levels of satisfaction from both patients and physiotherapists.
