Welcome to the Department of Social Work.

We have a proud history of social work education and research at The University of Melbourne. We acknowledge that this history has been forged on the lands of the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation.

Our staff are committed to high quality educational experiences for our students, whether you are seeking entry-to-practice training or post-qualifying specialisation. We offer a qualifying Master of Social Work degree, accredited by the Australian Association of Social Workers and recognised internationally.  We offer a vast range of post-qualifying online coursework options through our Master of Advanced Social Work or Master of Health and Human Services. Since 2014, we have partnered with the Dulwich Centre in Adelaide to offer the Master of Narrative Therapy and Community Work.

We are committed to providing high quality research training programs and seeking new research opportunities. Through our close working relationships with our state and national industry partners in health and community services, along with international academic networks, we contribute significantly to thought leadership, and program and policy solutions, in health, mental health, and child and family practice.

All of our educational and research programs are underpinned by a common agenda – an agenda that places social justice and wellbeing at the centre of all that we do. I invite you to be part of this agenda. So please explore our website to learn more about our programs, and our staff, and do not hesitate to be in touch to talk with us about how you can be a part of our vibrant learning community.
