Functional neuroscience of the retina/visual pathway

The Department has well-established methods for measuring visual capacity in terms of visual performance and electrophysiology of the early visual pathways (retina to cortical (V1)).

We utilize both behavioural methods and electrophysiology to understand how images of the world around us is processed in the retina, and important information encoded and transmitted to the brain. Using both human and animal models, we can also determine how such processes are altered in ageing and when eye disease is present.
